Tutorial Tuesday - Dyeing Plastic Buttons

I had never even considered dyeing my own buttons until I came across this tutorial on the RIT website . I have a huge amount of white and translucent buttons, which are all a bit dull and I can never quite find a use for them, but I also can't bring myself to get rid of them! Dying the buttons would be the answer to my problems - but one of the biggest problems I have - it that RIT dye is not available in the UK as far as I am aware and I can't find an equivalent product. So if you do have access to RIT, then do let me know how you get on - I would love to know! Or, if you know of a dye, available in the UK, then do please let me know too! Supplies Needed: Rit Liquid or Powder Dye: Any color or mix dye to create a custom color. Knoop Button Bowl

Iñigo Cañedo is an designer from Mexico who specialises in Design, 3D Modeling & Print. An entrant in ' the intelligent hand ' competition on Design Boom , Iñigo designed & created the Knoop Button Bowl , by carefully glueing plastic buttons together over a hemispheric mould to form the shape of the bowl. I love how the translucency of the buttons creates light projections over the surface of the bowl and its surrounds.

Lansing Button Salesman's Promotional Card

I came across this 1958 Lansing Button promo card selling on eBay recently and it's just so lovely - with it's fabulous 1950s illustration on the cover and pretty buttons on the inside - you'll definitely be centre stage if you wear these little beauties! I wonder how modern day Button companies now market & sell their buttons - do they still produce cards like this? Has anyone seen any? How do they compare to this vintage beauty I wonder...? Don't you love the description of this ' striking fancy ' button?
